Babson brings in $10.8M gift to promote social entrepreneurship

Babson College has landed a $10.8 million gift from the Lewis Charitable Foundation to establish an institute to support teaching, research and outreach in social entrepreneurship, including health care and clean tech concepts.

Boston Scientific stent gets FDA approval

Natick-based Boston Scientific Corp. plans to begin selling its Taxus Liberte Paclitaxel-Eluting Coronary Stent System in the U.S., following today’s announced approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Biogen withdraws arthritis drug after trial failures

Cambridge biotech Biogen Idec has stopped the development of its rheumatoid arthritis drug, baminercept, after it failed to meet both its primary and secondary endpoints in a Phase 2 trial, company officials announced.

Kronos Advanced Technologies shuts down

Kronos Advanced Technologies Inc., a maker of air movement and purification technologies in Belmont, has “curtailed operations and reduced its workforce to the fullest extent,” in response to the receipt of a notice of default by investor AirWorks Funding LLLP.

Draper taps retired general John Gordon as board chair

The non-profit defense research institute, Charles Stark Draper Laboratory Inc., has found a new board chairman in retired U.S. Air Force Gen. John Gordon. The four-star general will replace Draper’s current chairman John Kreick who is retiring and has held the post since 2001.
