McDermott takes CFO role at tapeless data company Sepaton

By Mass High Tech Staff

Marlborough-based Sepaton Inc. a maker of tapeless data protection systems for enterprises, has named former Sonus Networks Inc. chief accounting officer Paul McDermott to the post of CFO.

McDermott takes over for Bob Iacono, who previously held the positions of COO and CFO. Iacono will remain COO.

McDermott’s prior experience rests heavily on the public company side, having served at Westford-based Sonus (Nasdaq: SONS) and, prior to that, Virginia-based Legent Corp., which was bought by Computer Associates International Inc. for $1.78 billion in 1995.

McDermott also served as CFO for Pennsylvania-based ServiceWare Technologies, Inc., Westwood-based Network Intelligence Corp. (acquired  by EMC Corp. in 2006) and Minnesota-based Firepond Inc. McDermott helped manage Firepond’s 2000 initial public offering. Firepond (OTCBB: FPND) now trades on the over-the-counter bulletin board.

Sepaton, which spells “no tapes” backwards, makes data backup systems for a number of customers, and it counts Hewlett-Packard among its original equipment manufacturer partners.
