MIT to host d-Arbeloff remembrance gathering
By Mass High Tech Staff
Next Friday, October 17, MIT will host a remembrance gathering for former MIT Corp. chairman Alexander Vladimir d’Arbeloff, class of 1947, at 3:30 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium. The Teradyne Inc. co-founder died at the age of 80 on July 8.
D’Arbeloff served as a board member of the MIT Corp. since 1989 and, in 1997, was elected the eighth chairman in history. He helped lead the Calculated Risks, Creative Revolutions fundraising campaign, which contributed to the institute’s facility developments — including the Al and Barrie Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center and the Ray and Maria Stata Center — and curriculum developments merging life sciences and engineering, MIT officials reported.
He co-founded automatic test equipment maker Teradyne in 1960 with his former MIT classmate Nick DeWolf.
D’Arbeloff also aimed to improve science and engineering teaching with the creation of the Fund for Excellence in MIT Education, which he developed with his wife, Brit, class of 1961.
